- 2/3 cup lukewarm water
- 2 teaspoons organic cane sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon grapeseed oil
- 3 to 4 tablespoons finely chopped cilantro (optional)
- 3 tablespoons vegan butter
- 2 to 3 cloves garlic, grated or minced
- Flaky or coarse sea salt for finishing
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast: In a medium bowl, combine lukewarm water and organic cane sugar; stir until dissolved. Add active dry yeast and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- Prepare the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, sift all-purpose flour, fine sea salt, and baking powder together.
- Mix the Ingredients: Pour the yeast mixture and grapeseed oil into the dry ingredients. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 4-6 minutes until soft and elastic.
- First Rise: Lightly oil a bowl, place the dough inside, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 90 minutes.
- Shape the Dough: After rising, punch down the dough, divide into 8 portions, and shape into balls. Allow to rest for 10 minutes.
- Preheat Your Skillet: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Roll the Naan: Roll each dough ball into an oval shape, about 6-8 inches long.
- Brush with Garlic Butter: Mix melted vegan butter with grated garlic. Brush each naan surface with garlic butter.
- Cook the Naan: Place the naan in the skillet; cook until bubbles form, about 45-60 seconds. Flip, cover, and cook for another 30-40 seconds or until golden brown.
- Finish with Garlic Butter: Brush with remaining garlic butter and sprinkle with flaky sea salt. Serve warm.
Notes
Use room temperature vegan butter for easier incorporation. Experiment with flavors by adding spices or herbs as desired.
