A simple yet magnificent Onion Boil, featuring sweet Vidalia onions baked to caramelized perfection.
Ingredients

- 1 large Vidalia onion
- 1 tablespoon cubed unsalted butter
- 1 & 1/2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 small garlic clove, minced
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon coarse salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
Instructions
- Prep the onion: Trim both ends and peel off the outer layer.
- Create a well by carefully hollowing out the onion without cutting through the bottom.
- Take a piece of aluminum foil and crimp it up to create a bowl shape.
- Infuse the well with one tablespoon of cubed butter.
- In a small bowl, mix melted butter, minced garlic, brown sugar, and spices, and drizzle over the onion.
- Wrap the onion tightly in foil and place on a baking sheet.
- Bake at 375°F for 60 minutes until tender.
- Carefully unwrap and serve on a plate, enjoying the drizzled juices.
Notes
For added flavor, consider customizing with herbs or spices. Best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
