Description

A simple yet magnificent Onion Boil, featuring sweet Vidalia onions baked to caramelized perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large Vidalia onion
  • 1 tablespoon cubed unsalted butter
  • 1 & 1/2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 small garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning

Instructions

  1. Prep the onion: Trim both ends and peel off the outer layer.
  2. Create a well by carefully hollowing out the onion without cutting through the bottom.
  3. Take a piece of aluminum foil and crimp it up to create a bowl shape.
  4. Infuse the well with one tablespoon of cubed butter.
  5. In a small bowl, mix melted butter, minced garlic, brown sugar, and spices, and drizzle over the onion.
  6. Wrap the onion tightly in foil and place on a baking sheet.
  7. Bake at 375°F for 60 minutes until tender.
  8. Carefully unwrap and serve on a plate, enjoying the drizzled juices.

Notes

For added flavor, consider customizing with herbs or spices. Best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
