Description
Delightful heart-shaped chocolate sugar cookies with a melt-in-your-mouth texture, perfect for Valentine’s Day.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prep: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together. Set aside.
- Mix Butter and Sugar: In the bowl of a stand mixer, add the softened butter and granulated sugar. Beat on medium-high speed until very light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
- Add Eggs & Vanilla: Scrape down the bowl sides, then beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
- Combine Dry & Wet Ingredients: With the mixer speed on low, slowly add the flour mixture, and beat until just combined.
- Chill the Dough: Roll the dough between sheets of parchment paper to about 1/4″ thickness and chill in the refrigerator for an hour.
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375ºF (190ºC).
- Cut and Freeze: Cut the dough into desired heart shapes and place them in the freezer for 10 minutes.
- Bake: Transfer the cookies to parchment-lined baking sheets and bake for about 6 minutes.
- Cool: Let them cool on the baking sheets for a minute before carefully transferring to wire racks to cool completely before icing.
