- 2 large garlic cloves (minced)
- 1 large shallot (or 1 small onion, small dice)
- 1/3 cup grated carrots (about 3 small)
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- ¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- Neutral flavored cooking oil (for pan frying, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 400ºF (200ºC) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Soak the Lentils: Place dried lentils in a bowl, cover with water, and let soak for about 2 hours. Rinse and drain.
- Mix the Ingredients: In a food processor, combine lentils, garlic, shallot, carrots, tomato paste, cilantro, salt, and pepper. Pulse until well combined.
- Shape the Patties: Scoop ¼ cup of the mixture at a time and shape into patties about ½ inch thick.
- Cooking Options:
- Option 1: Bake: Place patties on the baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes, flip, and bake for another 10 minutes.
- Option 2: Pan-Fry: Heat oil in a skillet and cook patties for about 4 minutes on each side until golden and crispy.
- Serve: Pair the burgers with your favorite toppings on a bun or alongside a side salad or oven-roasted potatoes.
Notes
Ensure the lentils are soaked ahead of time for best results. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3-5 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
