Description
A flavorful and aromatic dish made with basmati rice, infused with a blend of spices including curry powder, turmeric, and cumin.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup basmati rice
- 2 cups water or broth
- 1 tablespoon oil or ghee
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- 1 teaspoon curry powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a medium-sized pot, heat the oil or ghee over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown (about 5-7 minutes).
- Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, curry powder, turmeric, cumin, and salt. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Add the rinsed rice to the pot and stir gently to coat it in the spice mixture.
- Pour in the water or broth, bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes.
- Remove from heat, let it rest for 5 minutes, fluff with a fork, garnish with fresh cilantro, and serve.
Notes
Rinsing the rice is crucial for a fluffy texture. Store any leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days.
