Description

A flavorful and aromatic dish made with basmati rice, infused with a blend of spices including curry powder, turmeric, and cumin.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 2 cups water or broth
  • 1 tablespoon oil or ghee
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a medium-sized pot, heat the oil or ghee over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown (about 5-7 minutes).
  3. Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, curry powder, turmeric, cumin, and salt. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Add the rinsed rice to the pot and stir gently to coat it in the spice mixture.
  5. Pour in the water or broth, bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat, let it rest for 5 minutes, fluff with a fork, garnish with fresh cilantro, and serve.

Notes

Rinsing the rice is crucial for a fluffy texture. Store any leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days.
