Delight in these warm, crispy vegan churros paired with rich chocolate sauce, using simple ingredients for a guilt-free treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil (avocado, canola, or peanut oil)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 56 cups oil for frying
  • ½ cup cane sugar (or coconut sugar)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 50 grams dark chocolate bar (70% cacao or more)
  • ¼ cup full-fat coconut milk
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large pot, bring 2 cups of water and 1 teaspoon salt to a rolling boil. Stir in ¼ cup of vegetable oil, then add 2 cups of all-purpose flour all at once, mixing quickly until a dough forms.
  2. Cool the Dough: Remove the pot from the heat and let the dough cool for about 10 minutes.
  3. Prepare for Frying: Heat 5-6 cups of oil in a deep pot or fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Pipe the Churros: Transfer the cooled dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
  5. Fry the Churros: Pipe strips of dough into the hot oil, frying for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Sugar & Spice: Roll the cooked churros in a mixture of cane sugar and 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon while warm.
  7. Melt the Chocolate: In a small saucepan, combine 50 grams of dark chocolate with ¼ cup of full-fat coconut milk over low heat, stirring until melted.
  8. Add Flavor: Stir in the ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract and ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon.
  9. Serve Warm: Pour the chocolate sauce into a small dish or drizzle over the churros.

Notes

For a healthier version, consider baking the churros instead of frying them.
