- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup vegetable oil (avocado, canola, or peanut oil)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 5–6 cups oil for frying
- ½ cup cane sugar (or coconut sugar)
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 50 grams dark chocolate bar (70% cacao or more)
- ¼ cup full-fat coconut milk
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large pot, bring 2 cups of water and 1 teaspoon salt to a rolling boil. Stir in ¼ cup of vegetable oil, then add 2 cups of all-purpose flour all at once, mixing quickly until a dough forms.
- Cool the Dough: Remove the pot from the heat and let the dough cool for about 10 minutes.
- Prepare for Frying: Heat 5-6 cups of oil in a deep pot or fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Pipe the Churros: Transfer the cooled dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
- Fry the Churros: Pipe strips of dough into the hot oil, frying for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Sugar & Spice: Roll the cooked churros in a mixture of cane sugar and 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon while warm.
- Melt the Chocolate: In a small saucepan, combine 50 grams of dark chocolate with ¼ cup of full-fat coconut milk over low heat, stirring until melted.
- Add Flavor: Stir in the ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract and ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon.
- Serve Warm: Pour the chocolate sauce into a small dish or drizzle over the churros.
