  • Firm Tofu: 400 grams (14 oz)
  • Honey: 4 tablespoons (or maple syrup for a vegan option)
  • Garlic: 4 cloves, minced
  • Soy Sauce: 3 tablespoons
  • Cornstarch: 1/2 cup
  • Sesame Oil: 2 tablespoons
  • Green Onions: 2, chopped
  • Sesame Seeds: 2 tablespoons (optional)
  • Vegetable Oil: for frying (about 1 cup)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tofu: Drain and press the tofu for 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. Cut the Tofu: Cube the tofu into uniform, bite-sized cubes.
  3. Make the Sauce: Mix honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, and sesame oil in a bowl.
  4. Coat the Tofu: Coat each tofu cube evenly in cornstarch.
  5. Fry the Tofu: Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat, fry tofu cubes for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown.
  6. Drain Excess Oil: Remove fried tofu and place it on a paper towel-lined plate.
  7. Sauce It Up: Return the skillet to medium heat, pour in the honey garlic sauce, and simmer for about a minute.
  8. Toss It All Together: Add crispy tofu to the sauce and toss to coat. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
