Ingredients

  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, finely chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup whole milk

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
  2. Add onion, carrots, and celery; sauté for about 5-7 minutes until softened and translucent.
  3. Stir in garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Add ground beef and pork; cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes.
  5. Pour in red wine and simmer until mostly evaporated, about 5 minutes.
  6. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix well and bring to a gentle simmer.
  7. Reduce heat and let it simmer uncovered for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  8. Stir in the milk and cook for an additional 30 minutes on low heat.
  9. Serve over your favorite pasta and enjoy!
