Description

A delightful swirl of tender dough infused with fruity blueberries and warm vanilla, perfect for brunch or afternoon tea.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup milk, warmed to about 110°F
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/4 cup blueberry jam

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast with a pinch of sugar. Let sit until foamy, about 5-10 minutes.
  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Knead the Dough: Transfer to a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. First Rise: Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Prepare the Filling: Mix blueberry jam with blueberries and set aside.
  7. Roll the Dough: Once risen, roll into a rectangle (approximately 12×18 inches).
  8. Spread the Filling: Spread the blueberry jam mixture over the dough, leaving a small border.
  9. Create the Roll: Roll the dough tightly from the long side and pinch the seams to seal.
  10. Twist and Shape: Cut the rolled dough in half lengthwise, twist both pieces together, and place in a greased loaf pan.
  11. Second Rise: Cover loosely with a cloth and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  12. Preheat and Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown.
  13. Cool and Enjoy: Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

Fresh blueberries create a more vibrant flavor. Make sure your butter is at room temperature for best results.
