Instructions

  1. Warm the Milk: In a small saucepan, gently warm the milk and melt the butter over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in the yeast, letting sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add milk mixture and beaten egg, mixing until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough: Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
  4. Make the Cream Cheese Filling: In another bowl, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  5. Form the Babka: Punch down the risen dough, roll out into a rectangle, spread cream cheese mixture and sprinkle blueberries.
  6. Twist the Dough: Roll into a log, slice in half, twist the halves together, and place in a greased loaf pan.
  7. Second Rise: Cover and let rise for 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F.
  8. Bake: Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and hollow sounding when tapped.
