  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon (optional: 1/4 tsp allspice)
  • Optional add-ins: 1/2 cup raisins, chopped walnuts, or shredded coconut

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the applesauce, water, oil, vanilla extract, and vinegar until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, baking powder, and spices, whisking to mix evenly.
  4. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, folding gently until no dry flour remains.
  5. Grease or line an 8-inch square or round cake pan with parchment paper and pour the batter evenly into the pan.
  6. Bake for approximately 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
